THIRD GENERATION

THIRD GENERATION / AGE OF REORGANIZATION

On the death of his father Mario, in 1964 Pierangiolo took over the reins of the company, ready to write the third chapter of the family epic under his direction, the winery changes name, now it is called “Gestione Piccini”, and changes residence, moving from Poggibonsi to the lands of Gallo Nero.

The operation reveals the dynamic and rebellious soul of Pierangiolo, who for the occasion of the relocation invests in the purchase of 155 hectares of “galestro and alberese gathered together in the heart of Castellina in Chianti’s district”. But Pierangiolo’s enterprising spirit does not end here. Eased the heavy financial restructuring in 1984, Piccini is back on track ready to gather new successes. In those years the company was enriched with a new winemaking cellar in Castellina in Chianti, still today one of the headquarters of the winery.

Experimentation and innovation characterize the soul of the third generation, which sets its eyes on the Valiano Agricultural Company, acquired in 1995. The company can now count on another 200 hectares of land, of which 75 are just a stroll away from Siena, in the heart of the Chianti Classico production area. Just six years later, in 2001, Pierangiolo invests again: Tenuta Moraia, with its 160 hectares of land (60 of which are vineyards), becomes part of the Piccini properties.

The estate, located just outside the ancient village of Gavorrano, benefits of a perfect microclimate for viticulture: under the guidance of the sun, the sweetness of the hills that merge with the sea which reflects a little further on, in the enchanting Gulf of Follonica.
